FIFA fines HK for fans’ racist abuse vs Azkals

MANILA, Philippines — FIFA has fined the Hong Kong Football Association (HKFA) due to the alleged racist behavior of its fans in a friendly against the Philippines last year.

The governing body of world soccer ordered Hong Kong to pay 30,000 Swiss Francs or roughly P1.4 million.

FIFA also ordered HKFA to pay an additional 3,000 Francs or around P148,000 to cover the cost of the proceedings.

Emerging Ginebra star Japeth Aguilar is NBA material, declares Asi Taulava

Japeth Aguilar provided one highlight after another for Barangay Ginebra San Miguel on Wednesday against Air 21, blocking eight shots and finishing several rim-rattling dunks.

He finished with 22 points and 12 rebounds and left his opponents a little starstruck.

COSTA DO SAUIPE, Brazil (AP) — The United States will play Ghana, Portugal and Germany in a tough first-round group at next year’s World Cup that will take them on a lengthy 9,000-mile trip around Brazil.

Making their seventh straight appearance at soccer’s showcase, the Americans were drawn Friday into Group G and will open on June 16 in Natal against Ghana, which eliminated the Americans at the 2006 and 2010 tournaments

MACAU – Just as Manny Pacquiao and Brandon Rios are set to engage in a big-time brawl, trainers Freddie Roach and Robert Garcia decided to bury the hatchet.

Pacquiao’s longtime trainer disclosed he and Garcia already talked to each other and apologized for their heated exchange of words that led to a scuffle between members of both teams on Wednesday morning.

MACAU/TACLOBAN, Philippines – Filipino boxing great Manny Pacquiao will carry the weight of a nation in mourning when he enters the ring on Sunday in the first major international fight to be held in the gambling capital of Macau.

Just a fortnight after one of the world’s worst typhoons smashed into the Philippines, killing more than 5,200 people and leaving millions homeless, Pacquiao has dedicated the fight to his millions of fans back home.

Donaire stops Darchinyan in 9th round

MANILA, Philippines – Six years ago, it was Nonito Donaire’s left hand that sent down Vic Darchinyan and catapulted the Filipino to boxing stardom.

Fast forward to Sunday, it was no different as Donaire landed the same left hook that led to a ninth round stoppage of Darchinyan in their 10-round non-title featherweight rematch at the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, Texas.

The left blow started the end for the proud Armenian, who fell on his knees. Darchinyan was able to beat the count before Donaire went for the finish – unloading on two uppercuts prompting the referee to waive off the fight at the 2:06 mark in the penultimate round.

During the recent NBA Global Games pre-season match between the Houston Rockets and the Indiana Pacers, Dragons head coach Ariel Vanguardia asked PBA Commissioner Chito Salud about the possibility of coming in as a guest team for one conference in the D-League.

“Basketball is a growing sport in Malaysia and we want to give our players more exposure and that is learning from the best in the region – Filipinos,” explained Vanguardia, who is on his third year as head coach of the Dragons.

The Dragons play in the ASEAN Basketball League where they finished third in the last two seasons. The Kuala Lumpur-based squad, with Vanguardia at the helm, has amassed a 24-18 record.
